How-To. Greek Sculpture?

omfq. no way! asked:

I’m trying to make Greek columns out of air-dry modeling clay. And Greek painted pottery. Any how-to’s on the making of those?

I think you would get the best results if you enrolled in a ceramics class or a pottery class.

A number of Greek pots look like they started on a potters wheel and were assembled from several parts.

they were decorated with colored slip - a colored clay mixed with water
a raw sienna
a black
some touches of white.

the slip was painted on before the pieces were fired.

Gather some pictures and talk to a person teaching a class. There are some instructors that would think that is a nice challenge.

I had one instructor talking about some students that spent a semester trying to make their pieces as close to Ancient Greek Pottery as practical

Your pieces will be fired a bit higher than the originals were fired
