Got any craft ideas using oyster shells?

Boo asked:

I have some really pretty ones but I don’t know what to do with them. I know I could make wind chimes out of them, but what else?
Thanks

If they’re the ones that have a hole on top of them, make necklaces out of them. my favorite is hemp. it’s really cool!! hope your crafts work out!

Take the shells and flip them over so that the hollow, or the bowl-like indent is open. If you have some colored marbles, beads, or something of the like, take some strong-hold glue and put a couple drops on the back of the beads/marbles and glue them along the insides, clustered together so they look beautiful. Do this for all of the shells. Now, wait for them to dry. Flip them over so they look like hills, with the indents away, and paint them. Now, you have some really beautiful gems and designs on a beautiful little jewel. Take a string if you can, and maybe make necklaces with your beautiful work, if you can, that is. If not, just leave them as such. They look splendid, and you can place them around your house as decorations. If you have kids, get them involved, too.

Good luck!

If youre just looking to use them for something, & don’t necessarily need the pearly part to show, here’s a project I did one for an outdoor BBQ party:

I collected Oystershell halfs that had a somewhat deep bowl. clean & dry them well & use them for t-lite candle holders. You can just place a t-lite inside the shell, or if your really crafty, you can actually make the shell into a candle by melting wax & pouring into the shell, placing a wick in the center. They don’t last very long (about 1 1/2 hrs.) but they’re very pretty on a buffet table outdoors at nite.
